Types of Internship Possibilities:
Partnerships Intern: work
with Director to facilitate communications with community stakeholders,
prepare for quarterly Washington Military Alliance and Washington State
Military Transition Council meetings, research legislation, attend
meetings, organize contacts, review press opportunities
by partners and coordinate with communications intern and industry
intern, update and maintain catalog of other state efforts around
military and defense sector support and prepare briefs.
Industry Intern:
work with Director to facilitate communications with business
stakeholders and the 1500 companies doing defense work in WA, schedule
site visits to companies, prepare for meetings, research legislation,
attend meetings, organize contacts, maintain industry
association directory, update and maintain defense contracting
resources guide, help generate quarterly industry analysis reports, and
prepare briefs.
Future Missions Intern:
work with the Director and other sector leads to track DOD/DHS issues
related to identified areas of growth for the military and defense
sector, work with stakeholders to address key strategic initiatives to
move these future missions forward in the state,
prepare for meetings, research legislation, attend meetings, organize
contacts, update materials and future mission one pagers in coordination
with communications intern. [Future mission areas include: Cyber,
Arctic security, global health, Unmanned systems,
clean tech]
Installations Intern:
work with the Director to facilitate communications with military
installations, national guard units and department of energy facilities
doing defense work in WA, update materials and installation one pagers
in coordination with communications intern, prepare
for meetings, coordinate installation site visits, support efforts on
BRAC coordination, attend meetings, organize contacts, review press
opportunities and prepare briefs.
Legislative Intern:
work with the Director to support legislative efforts at the state and
federal level, attend meetings, organize contacts, maintain legislative
directory, interface with legislators on behalf of the Director, prepare
briefs and help maintain advocacy agendas.
Track legislative efforts of the state’s Joint Committee on Military
and Veterans’ Affairs, and the federal committees for House Armed
Services, Defense Appropriations and members of the delegation serving
on committees of jurisdiction.
Communications Intern:
work with the Director to ensure regular communications are occurring
in web format, social media, print and electronic
formats. Works with various communications departments within the
agency and outside the agency to ensure that messaging is reaching its
intended targets and stakeholders with supervision and approval from the
Director.
