Ecology and ecological
forestry
of the Cascade Range
Professor Jerry Franklin: July 14-20: 5 credits
Week-long field course includes visits to old-growth and early seral forests
where we observe and discuss the ecology and management of these
socioecosystems. Students will gain an understanding of the ecological
structure, function, and disturbance regimes of these forests, as well as an
overview of the historic and current efforts to manage and restore them. We will
be based in Forest Service housing at the Wind River Experimental Forest with
daily road trips, walks, and occasional evening lectures.

* Harvest, thinning, and restoration projects
