Filipino Community of Seattle (5740 MLK Jr. Way)

Our communities are diverse, with many different histories and customs, and much to share with and learn from one another. What are the strengths that we have in common, and how do we who come from so many different paths use these strengths in working together to address issues of inequity? Join Rainier Valley Corps for a thought-provoking conversation with professor john powell. Professor powell has written extensively on a number of issues including structural racism, racial justice and regionalism, concentrated poverty and urban sprawl, opportunity based housing, voting rights, affirmative action in the United States, South Africa and Brazil, racial and ethnic identity, spirituality and social justice, and the needs of citizens in a democratic society. He is the author of several books, including his most recent work, Racing to Justice: Transforming our Concepts of Self and Other to Build an Inclusive Society. Readmore on Professor powell's work.

We will hear from professor powell, and then spend time reflecting on his message and discussing how we can work together moving forward. More info and RSVP here as space will be limited. Light refreshments will be served.
