Pol S/LSJ/CHID/JSIS Writing Center - Tutor Hiring Announcement

Do you enjoy writing?  Do your professors or TAs write comments like “great work,” “fantastic,” or “excellent point” on your essays?  Do you already give your peers good feedback on how to improve their papers?  If so, would you like to get paid for what you are doing already?!

If you can answer yes to the aforementioned questions, please consider applying for a position as a writing tutor for the Political Science/LSJ/Jackson School/CHID Writing Center.

Pending continuation of funding, tutors may receive either a wage of $10.91 per hour or Political Science 499 credit (2 credits per quarter for if 6 hours worked each week, graded C/NC). Work-study recipients are welcome, too. Tutors are classified as hourly academic student employees and become union members after 110 hours of employment. See http://www.washington.edu/admin/hr/laborrel/contracts/uaw/addons for more information.

ELIGIBILITY
You must have junior or senior standing in Political Science, LSJ, CHID, or any major in the Jackson School at the start of Autumn Quarter 2015, and possess strong verbal and writing skills. Tutors work a minimum of six hours per week for most weeks of a given quarter.

HOW TO APPLY
For the application click hereSubmit your application by Friday, April 24, at 4:00 pm to the Political Science Department Office in Gowen 101. Include the application form, as well as:

 * A one-page letter explaining why you are a suitable candidate and why you are interested in being a writing tutor,
 * An unofficial transcript, and
 * A writing sample (a Political Science, LSJ, Jackson School, or CHID paper with instructor comments is preferred).

We will begin contacting applicants for an interview by May 1, and hope to make tentative offers of employment by May 22, 2015.
