Pandora Scooter is a national touring artist. Winner of the Spoken Knowledge DNC Contest for her anti-prejudice poem "Other." Cast in reality spoken word television show, RELE. Endorsed by International Folk Poet Alix Olson and hailed as a Spoken Word Rock Star. The I AM ENOUGH national tour will be her second national tour serving the LGBTQ youth community.

The show, I AM ENOUGH, follows the story of Pan, who struggles with rejection from her parents and friends, for being gay and for being different. After attempting suicide, Pan finds herself in a hospital where, with the help of a fantastic counselor and her inner strength, she realizes she wants to live, thrive and that she is enough.


There will be a 10-15 minute talk-back at the end of the performance.

ASUW Queer Student Commission is Hiring

The ASUW Queer Student Commission is hiring a Director for the 2015-2016 school year! The Queer Student Commission is one of eight diversity commissions under the Associated Students of the University of Washington. We are a student-run, student-led, umbrella organization for queer and trans* students on campus.

The ASUW Queer Student Commission's mission is to create and adapt programming that fosters a positive and anti-oppressive atmosphere so that it is appealing, relevant, and successful in drawing membership from all portions of the queer community. QSC also acts as a representative and advocate on behalf of issues and concerns of the queer community, and advocates against homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of oppression on campus and in the community. QSC creates learning spaces for students to explore topics related to queerness, anti-oppression, power and privilege, and social justice. Finally, QSC serves as a liaison to queer organizations on campus, informs students of services available on campus and maintains strong communication with all queer constituencies.

Queer Students of Color Conference

The Queer Students of Color Conference is just around the corner! It will be Saturday April 18th and Sunday April 19th, to be exact. The Q Center at the University of Washington will be paying for transportation (renting vans), registration, and hotel rooms for UW students, so please fill out this form if that applies and you would like to attend! The UW Registration form is not the same as the PSU form because we are registering as a group, so please submit the UW form!

PSU's description: "The Queer Students of Color Conference (QSOCC) at Portland State University (PSU) is in its 5th year. This year’s goal is to bring our communities along with us as we examine how, collectively, queer and trans communities of color - marginalized by varying additional intersecting identities - experience and interact with art."

Queer and Trans* Art Submission Opportunities

Art is always THE way to express whatever you want to express. And you have the opportunity to show off your talent!

The ASUW Queer Student Commission is creating “QArt”, a Queer and Trans* Art Book, as well as the QT Art and Poetry Show in Parnassus Cafe. Your artwork will be collected in the book, and your talent may be presented in the art building’s cafe for all students to see!

There is only one requirement – your work should be queer related. What is queer? Queer is community and solidarity; queer is a voice shouting out “We need no labels!”; queer spirits symbolize the diversity of the world. There aren’t many restrictions surrounding the artwork; just that it be queer-related.

There are three opportunities for submission, one for the Queer and Trans* Art Book, one for the QT Art and Poetry Show, and one for the Qolors Art Walk (organized by the Q Center, ECC and QPOCA). The details for each can be found below:

QT Art and Poetry Show

Promiscuous and/or crude imagery is disallowed by Parnassus. Any such submissions will only be presented in Queer and Trans* Art Book. Paintings and poetry are encouraged because they can easily be presented.

We will try to present as many pieces as possible. However, the space in Parnassus is limited. If you wish to request a spot, send an email to lzy94@uw.edu.

If we get submissions early enough, we might be able to book an extended art showcase (art placed in Parnassus for a month). However, we currently anticipate being able to have a one night showcase.

Please submit your work electronically for our consideration (preferably an image in PDF or JPG format). Please keep the original work for yourself.

QUEER FEMININE NARRATIVES (MONDAY, MARCH 9TH)
Queer femme narratives is a space for queer and trans women and other non-men to come together and share experiences with sexism, homophobia, transmisogyny, and more. This group exists to build a community and support network through discussion. We'll meet in the Q Center two times each quarter!

This group is a collaboration of the Queer Student Commission, Women's Action Commission, and Student Disability Commission. Eze Klarnet is the facilitator.

Lavender Graduation Committee - Volunteer Opportunity

The Q Center and Queer Student Commission (QSC) host Lavender Graduation as a time for the UW queer, trans*, two-spirit, same gender loving, and allied communities to come together and celebrate our multiple identities, our accomplishments, and sheer AWESOMENESS.

We are currently seeking volunteers who are interested in serving on the planning committee. Typically, the time commitment consists of a 1-hour meeting every other week, which will change to weekly meetings closer to the event or as needed. We also ask that committee members attend and volunteer the day of the ceremony.

This year's Lavender Graduation will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 9th, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:30PM @ the UW Tower Mezzanine Level Lounge.

3 Info Sessions for Q Center Study Abroad in Barcelona!

The Q Center invites you to attend an info session for a new faculty-led Exploration Seminar titled, "Spain: Advancing Queer Policy Throughout the World?" The course is led by Q Center staff with sponsorship and support from the UW School of Social Work and CISAbroad. The focus of our program is a comparative analysis of LGBTQ rights, social movements, and the ways in which social policies affect the lived experiences of LGBTQ people in Spain and the US. We invite and encourage both undergraduate and graduate students of any major/school and class standing to apply. We are ecstatic about offering this opportunity to students and to host the first LGBTQ-themed Exploration Seminar!

Paid Undergraduate FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES with UW's Carlson Center

The Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center is pleased to announce three PAID FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES for undergraduate UW students. Through the Carlson Civic Fellowship program, the Carlson Center will hire three Fellows to work at three local non-profits.

The host sites for 2015 Carlson Civic Fellows will be:
- Entre Hermanos / LGBT Latino Public Policy and Community Mobilization Fellow
- International Rescue Committee / Citizenship-Preparation Program Fellow
- Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority (“SCIDpda” / IDEA Space: Public Safety Program Fellow


Students selected as Carlson Civic Fellows will commit to working with their community non-profit 10 hours per week from January-June 2015 and will receive a $2,500 stipend for their work.

In addition to their work with their host site, Carlson Civic Fellows will also:
-Participate in a 3-credit (credit/no-credit) Community-Based Leadership (CBL) course offered through the Carlson Center during Winter Quarter.
-Create a Personal Development Plan articulating goals for their time enrolled in the fellowship, and participate in regular advising sessions with a Carlson Center staff member to assess their progress and development.
-Identify personal strengths and leadership styles through structured activities and reflection exercises; integrate this understanding and awareness into service with their community organization.

2015 Carlson Civic Fellowship Positions

Entre Hermanos
LGBT Latino Public Policy and Community Mobilization
The Carlson Civic Fellow will help Entre Hermanos strengthen its 2015 legislative social justice agenda, geared towards promoting the health and well-being of the Latino LGBTQ community. The Fellow will participate in information-gathering discussions with various stakeholders; conduct research on community needs and interests; support the development of related Communication strategies to spark community mobilization; engage in direct advocacy activities; assist in the evaluation of the 2015 Legislative Session’s outcomes and recalibration of legislative priorities as needed; and help with early implementation of Entre Hermanos’ social justice agenda, while planning towards the sustainability of the organizations legislative efforts over time.

International Rescue Committee
Citizenship-Preparation Program
The Carlson Civic Fellow will support the IRC in Seattle’s efforts to improve and strengthen its citizenship-preparation programming for the organization’s primary client-base, refugees resettled to the United States. Refugees are eligible for citizenship through naturalization 5 years after their arrival in this country, and IRC in Seattle believes that more refugees would apply for citizenship if they felt confident in their abilities to pass the naturalization test. The Carlson Civic Fellow will evaluate other citizenship preparation courses offered both within King County and across the country, and consult with IRC staff on which best practices could be implemented by the organization. Using this information, the Civic Fellow will design and pilot a pilot citizenship-preparation project – with an eye towards evaluation and program sustainability, and with the dedicated support of IRC staff and volunteers.

Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority (SCIDpda)
IDEA Space: Public Safety Program
SCIDpda works to revitalize Seattle’s Chinatown International District neighborhood through economic and community development efforts that are designed to preserve the community’s multi-ethnic culture and heritage. The Carlson Civic Fellow will aid SCIDpda in two programs, addressing issues of public safety and community engagement: 1) The organization’s twice-weekly, evening Neighborhood Block Watch program focuses on crime prevention and ownership of the streets, but has been on hiatus for over a year. The Fellow will work with SCIDpda staff to jumpstart participation in the initiative amongst neighborhood residents, employees, business owners, families and others, propelling community empowerment, efficacy and cohesion. 2) They will also provide valuable strategic, recruitment and logistical support leading up to, and during, the organization’s neighborhood Spring Clean program, taking place in April 2015.

Every Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Q Center you too can meet with others who wish to explore the continuum of gender identity and expression through discussion, support of one another, and connection. This support group is facilitated by two master of social work students interning at the Q Center. Lor and Liz bring to the group years of experience in facilitation, community organizing, and expertise in gender and sexuality.
