Jean Godden serves on the Seattle City Council. She is running for re-election in District 4 which encompasses the University of Washington and surrounding areas.  She is running to finish the work she started on the Council to achieve true gender equity, sustain Seattle’s vibrant neighborhoods and provide accessible, fair transportation. She is in search of motivated and energetic interns to help continue the fight!

Interns who demonstrate passion and perform at a rigorous pace will gain increased responsibility, and consequently, be sufficiently experienced to hold staff positions on all levels of political campaigns.

Interns will be involved in the following duties:

●        Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers

●        Volunteer data management

●        Donor research  

●        Developing and staffing fundraising events

●        Direct voter contact and persuasion

●        Utilizing and mastering Votebuilder, a program used by all major Democratic campaigns as a canvassing and campaign management tool

●        Utilizing and mastering NGP, a program used by all major Democratic campaigns as a political finance and donor research too

Requirements:

●        Strong academic record in any field of study.

●        Must be well-organized, flexible, able to work well with others, and capable of multitasking while prioritizing projects.

●        Excellent communication skills

●        Must be able to work independently while following detailed instructions.

●        Proficiency in MS Office.

●        Knowledge of and passion for local city politics preferred.

Working on a local campaign gives invaluable experience and insight into the inner workings of our government. It will teach the skills required to hold positions on larger campaigns and it  is great to have on a resume – the 2016 presidential campaigns will be in search of employees with campaign experience!  The internship is unpaid but eligible for credit. Work hours are flexible and will be available between April 1, 2015 and November 3, 2015

Alene Moris National Education for Women's Leadership Reminder: Application deadline is April 3 Are you an undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in becoming a leader in your community? Are you committed to bringing better representation for women in all fields? Apply for the 2015 Alene Moris National Education for Women's Leaders Institute. The Alene Moris National Education for Women's (NEW) Leadership Institute is part of a national program started by Rutgers University in 1991. This program is designed to encourage women to seek out leadership positions and engage more with the civic community. Women are over 50 percent of the American population and yet they are underrepresented in leadership positions in virtually every field. The Alene Moris NEW Leadership Institute is working to change that. The Institute lasts for 6 days, from June 22nd-June 27th, 2015. During that time, participants will meet some of Washington's leading women who can offer insight into their experiences and provide important training and networking skills. Organizing for Washington Campaign Internships

A special project of the John Kennedy and Harry Truman funds, Organizing for Washington is a grassroots organization dedicated to increasing voter turnout in support of candidates for state and local office in the November 2014 elections. OFW will equip volunteers with the tools and training necessary to build relationships with voters in their neighborhoods.

Organizing for Washington is currently seeking Campaign Interns.  This position is intended for individuals with a strong desire to positively impact the future of Washington state through concentrated, goal-driven voter contact and outreach activities. Interns must be able to sustain a friendly, customer-service oriented attitude towards volunteers, be a proficient multi-taskers, demonstrate leadership qualities, and be willing to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, people-oriented work environment.

Specific duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting Field Organizers in the recruitment and retention of a volunteer workforce, both over the phone and in-person
• Participating in daily voter contact activities such as phonebanking and door-to-door canvassing
• Collecting, organizing and data-entering all materials related to voter contact activities
  
• Ability to work with local partners to find resources in the community and a willingness to ask for help from others
  
• Comfort working in online computer environments, and a basic proficiency in Word and Excel

CarbonWA is seeking a Campaign Coordinator!

CarbonWA is a small, grassroots campaign to implement a revenue neutral carbon tax in Washington State. We believe a modest tax on carbon (coal, oil, and gas) will drive down carbon emissions while creating incentives to the development of cleaner energy options. By coupling this carbon tax with a reduction in the sales tax and other targeted reductions, we can generate broad based political support and keep families monthly tax bills about the same. Internship with Cyrus Habib for State Senate

The Friends of Cyrus campaign is looking to bring on interns to help staff Cyrus Habib’s campaign for State Senate!

What: Representative Cyrus Habib is running for the open Senate Seat in the 48^th District and his campaign is offering internships for undergraduate students who are interested in learning more about campaigning, politics, and Washington State government.

When: The internship would start Monday, July 9^th (or as soon as possible), and would continue through the November election, ending on November 5^th.  The position would require between 15 and 25 hours per week, the schedule is negotiable depending on the needs of the student, but a firm commitment is necessary.

Where: The campaign office is located in Redmond, but campaign activities take place all around the 48^th District which includes Medina, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point and parts of Bellevue, Redmond, and Kirkland.

Compensation: The internship is unpaid, but can fulfill class credit, service learning, or volunteer requirements subject to University approval.

About the Candidate:

Cyrus Habib was elected State Representative, Position 2, in the 48^th District in 2012. He is a practicing attorney at Perkins Coie, the largest private law firm in the region, as well as an associate law professor at Seattle University law school where he teaches several courses.

The ideal intern would…

·         Be politically-minded and interested in politics or government.

·         Possess excellent organizational skills.

·         Have good interpersonal skills, and feel comfortable talking to constituents as well as Representatives and Senators.

·         Have a respect for formality, and possess an understanding of appropriate professional dress and behavior.

·         Be willing to take on any task that needs doing, and be able to work with a team, or alone with minimal supervision.

·         Have access to a car and laptop (not required but strongly preferred).

Internship Opportunity with 43rd District State Legislative Campaigns

Seeking interns for two state legislative campaigns in Washington's 43rd Legislative District.  The 43rd district includes UW and the U-District, Fremont, Wallingford, Capitol Hill, and the downtown core of Seattle.  This is a great opportunity to learn the inner workings of political campaigns, network and develop connections in the local political arena, and to work closely alongside legislators who shape Washington State's public policies.

Campaign interns will engage in the following activities:

1) Attend campaign coordination meetings

2) Help organize fundraising and outreach efforts

3) Assist with media communications (including social media outreach)

4) Provide administrative support

Interns will report directly to the campaign manager and will have frequent opportunities to interact with the candidate.  There will also be opportunities to participate in engagement with local non-profits and other policy-involved organizations.

The internship will begin ASAP and will last until September with the possibility of continued involvement through to the November 4th election depending on interest/performance.  This is an unpaid position, but accommodations can be made if there is an opportunity to fulfill academic requirements or credits if applicable.  Furthermore, interns will have the opportunity to shape their experience based on their interests and learning objectives.

Internship with Jason Ritchie for Congress

Jason Ritchie is the Democrat running in Washington State's 8th Congressional District, which includes parts of King, Pierce, Kittitas, Douglas, and Chelan Counties.

The Jason Ritchie for Congress campaign is seeking motivated and talented people to be Campaign Interns on a rolling basis between April and the election November 4th. Course credit may be available with approval from the university, and in district living quarters may be provided.

This internship is an opportunity to learn hands-on about the many aspects of a political campaign out on the campaign trail. Schedule is flexible, some weekends required. Training will be provided for all aspects of your work and interns will be supervised by the Campaign Manager (Conor Bronsdon) though other senior staff may assist in training. Minimum hours are 15-20 hours a week.  Full time work is an option. Main office is located in Issaquah however satellite work is available for those in Seattle or elsewhere.

There are three categories of campaign interns being sought by the campaign, though interns may move between categories as needed. Their duties include:

Finance Interns

• Donor research
• Database management
• Participating in and staffing the candidate during fundraising call time
• Assisting in the organization of fundraising events
• Supporting the Finance Director/Finance Consultant

 Field Interns  

• Recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers
• Organizing phone bank shifts and doorbell days        
• Database management
• Participating in phone calling/door belling and talking with voters about important issues

Political Communication Interns

• Policy research and writing policy briefs    
• Drafting press releases and participating in press outreach
• Conducting social media activities and outreach  
• Assisting in the organization of political events
• Supporting the candidate and senior staff 

Qualifications:

Interns should possess a strong work ethic, the ability to interact comfortably with the public, and close attention to detail. Interest in public service, politics, and community issues is a plus.

Intern positions for UW students on a statewide Initiative 594 campaign

The Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility needs interns for their campaign to pass the statewide Initiative 594 for universal background checks on gun sales this November!

An internship on the WAGR campaign will give you a broad range of experience in what makes a state-wide campaign work - participating in every department with a focus on field including:

• Support the field program as needed through data management, volunteer recruitment, and voter contact at events

• Support the general campaign effort by participating in campaign meetings and events, drafting communications materials, and doing research

• 10-20 hours a week, at least one weekday evening

• Flexible schedule to split between week days and weekends as needed

Your day-to-day work will include everything from representing the campaign at community meetings, recruiting volunteers to call voters, and assisting research efforts as well as administrative responsibilities. Interns will support the efforts of our staff in all areas which will include evening and weekend event duties. 

Internships are unpaid, may have opportunities later, and are open to all ages. For students, this experience can typically qualify for school credit.

Environment Washington - Jobs for Students:

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that works to build support for progressive organizations across the country. We run campaigns for USPIRG, Environment America, the Human Rights Campaign, and Fair Share.

Currently in Seattle, we are working on a campaign to protect forests and wildlife in the North Cascades. Campaign staff will build membership for Environment Washington, educate and activate citizens to protect 230,000 acres of forests outside of North Cascades National Park, and generate political pressure on key elected officials by running phone banks.

Working with Environment Washington represents a fantastic opportunity to earn between $10-15/hr while working for a great cause, and gaining valuable communication and campaign leadership skills.
